Citrus is in season my friends! Yes, I'm talking lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, etc. I don't know about you but I have a thing for fruit...all of it! I don't typically buy grapefruit when at the grocery store but there was something about my last trip that caught my eye. The grapefruits looked particuarly delicious, they were plump and that perfect color of orangy-pink. I couldn't resist so bought 6 (yes I told you I liked fruit!).
I usually put some sugar on my grapefruit in the mornings to sweeten up the tart taste so the idea of a broiled grapefruit doesn't fall too far from the tree. Think of this recipe like a 'healthy' creme brûlée. Yum!
2 large grapefruits
3 tablespoons light brown sugar, sprinkled
dash of ground cinnamon
Cut each grapefruit in half. Cut a thin slice off the bottom of each half if fruit isn't already balanced. Loosen up the grapefruit segments as you would eat it normally. Place the halves of each grapefruit upright on a baking pan.
In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon. Using your fingers, evenly sprinkle the sugar mixture over the grapefruit halves. Slide the baking pan under the broiler and broil for about 5-7 minutes or until a deep amber color.
Transfer each grapefruit half onto a dish and eat!
