I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day full of love and lots of chocolate. This was our first Valentine's Day as husband and wife so we got a bunch of text messages from family and friends.
We normally stay in on Valentine's Day to get away from the overpriced prefixed menus and overcrowded restaurants; usually make a fancy dinner and drink a good bottle of wine. But as Saturday approached, my valentine had something different in mind.
We woke up around 8am and I headed straight to the kitchen to attempt to make bacon in the shape of hearts, which I butchered..literally! Needless to say, we ended up at Park Tavern in North Beach for an unplanned brunch.
Around 3 o'clock my valentine said "let's get out of the house tonight and go out to dinner," my immediate reaction was 'Umm..it's Valentine's Day, there is no way we are going to get seated anywhere' - not to mention I already had a meal planned.
Fast-forward a few hours when I hear "start getting ready, we're going out." We had dinner at Zarzuela, my favorite spanish tapas restaurant in Russian Hill. They don't take reservations and Valentine's Day certainly wasn't an exception. After putting our name down, we walked across the street to Union Larder, a cute little wine bar where we had wine and cheese to kill time.
I must say for a completely unplanned Valentine's Day, it was perfect! Sometimes having no plan is the best plan. I definitely encourage you and a loved one to do the same one year, you never know what kind of memories you will create together!
What did you do for Valentine's Day?
