I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 4 years now and really can't imagine living anywhere else at this point in our lives. San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities and there is so much to do. I've gotten a lot of messages asking for recommendations for things to do and places to eat, so I wanted to put together a list of some of my favorite places around the city. Disclosure: We're always exploring new places and neighborhoods in the city so if you have any hidden gems, please let me know!
Tacolicious: When we need our Mexican food fix we go to the one in the Marina, but they also have locations in North Beach and the Mission. The tacos are amazing and the Marina Girl salad is the bomb.com.
Zarzuela: This is our go-to place for Spanish tapas. It's a cozy little restaurant in Russian Hill, one of the cutest neighborhoods with cable cars going up and down the street. They don't take reservations and fill up quick so make sure to go early and put your name down.
Elephant Sushi: This is a little painful to even put on here because it's seriously my favorite sushi place in the city and the wait is already crazy long, but I couldn't leave it out. They don't take reservations (of course!) and the wait gets up for 3 hours long, but 100% worth it. Tip: Put your name down and go across the street to Union Larder to have a glass of wine (or two..) while you wait.
Park Tavern: This is an upscale tavern with a traditional American menu in North Beach. You have to get the brussels sprout chips as a starter...yum!. Their brunch is also pretty delicious.
Kokkari: If you're in the mood for high-end Greek food, this is the place to go on the edge of the Financial District.
Nopa: Located right in NOPA, this is one of Mike's favorite places in the city. Both their brunch and dinner is awesome.
Umami Burger: If you love a good burger, this place is for you. We go to the one in the Marina but there's also on in SOMA. Their sweet potato fries are to die for.
Union Street: Located in the Marina with boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants. While you're there you can pop into Umami Burger.
Westfield Mall: When I need to shop, this is where I go. It has literally everything from big department stores like Nordstrom and Bloomingdales to some of my favorite stores like Zara.
Union Square: This is the mecca for shopping and right down the street from Westfield Mall. You'll find shops all around Union Square (including two huge Forever 21's within a block of each other).
Presidio: The Presidio is a former military base that's now a beautiful park with great views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the city.
Ferry Building: The Ferry Building is full of little shops and restaurants, including Blue Bottle Coffee, Hog Island Oysters and The Slanted Door, a few of my favorites. There's also a great farmer's market on Saturdays with fresh product, flowers, samples, and more.
Palace of Fine Arts: Built in 1915 for the World's Fair, this is a picturesque spot to San Francisco, located right in the Marina close to the Presidio and Golden Gate Bridge. The Palace of Fine Arts is so pretty, make sure to walk around the grounds and along the lake.
Sausalito: Sausalito is a gem to the Bay Area, located just across the Golden Gate Bridge. You can take an Uber over, drive your car, or rent bikes near Fisherman's Warf and ride across the Golden Gate Bridge and then take the ferry back to the city. If you're over there try Bar Bocce on a sunny day and/or Sushi Ran, a restaurant we've been meaning to try.
