Monthly Beauty Favorites

BeautyVeronica ArrietaComment

I haven't done a monthly favorites in a while, and since we just wrapped up June (hello, where has half the year gone?!), I thought I would share a few of my new favorite beauty products from last month. These are a little all over the beauty aisle so may seem a little random, but they've turned into some of my favorite products that I will definitely be re-buying. If you missed my other beauty favorites, you can find them here. Without further adieu, here are my monthly beauty favorites from June.

P.S. - I always love finding out about new beauty products and/or happy to try out anything you've heard of, just leave me a comment below.

Monthly beauty favorites from june: EOS shaving cream

EOS Shaving Cream

One of my least favorite things is shaving my legs, but this shaving cream has made me look forward to the task (weird, I know). I was a little skeptical at first because EOS is known for their circular lip balm, but I was pleasantly surprised once I tried the shave cream. It’s a cream-based shaving cream, which I actually like more because you don’t use as much product. It's very moisturizing and the smell is heavenly. My husband even made a  few comments on how silky smooth my legs have been lately. This is a great product for anyone with sensitive or normal skin. I will definitely be ordering more of this when I run out.

Monthly Beauty Favorites: Makeup Eraser Cloth

Makeup Eraser Makeup Remover Cloth

This product has completely blown my mind (in a good way). I’ve always used a Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipe to remove my makeup but decided to try this cloth so I don’t have to keep buying the wipes. And oh my goodness, I just rubbed it a few times on my face and it literally takes everything off, including my eye makeup. This magic eraser is literally magic, I’ve been raving about it to my husband (who definitely doesn't care!!). This is 110% worth the $20 because you don't have the lazy girl excuse of not taking off your makeup before bed anymore!

Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion

My husband gave me some crazy looks when he saw this in the shower one day. I’m terrible at putting on lotion after I shower, which only makes my skin dry. So I was aimlessly walking around the beauty aisles at Walgreens and couldn’t resist trying this in-shower body lotion. It’s super easy, whenever I’m done washing my hair and body with soap, I will lather this Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion, then rinse off and dry off with a towel as usual. I really have been loving this stuff because it keeps my skin hydrated and doesn’t leave my skin sticky like some lotions do.

Laura Mercier Foundation Radiant Primer

So y’all know how much I love my Hourglass Primer, but ran out last month so I decided to try out a new primer to see how it compared. I really love this Laura Mercier Foundation Radiant Primer for summer because it gives you that beautiful ‘glow from within’ that we all want in the summertime. It really brightens up my face before I apply my foundation. I also read somewhere that a few makeup artists use this on Gigi Hadid for her glowy looks - yaass!!

October beauty favorites

Halloween is coming, which means October is almost over (which means...basically it's Christmas!!!) This month's beauty favorites are all new products that I haven't able to put down - with the colder months coming I need all the help I can get to keep that healthy glow.

What are some of your favorites this month?

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

I've always been a little hesitant with liquid lipsticks that are "long wearing" because they usually don't last but decided to give Kat Von D's a try and holy-moly-batman I'm obsessed with the formula and color. I'm wearing the shade "lovesick," which is the perfect nude-y mauve color for Fall. I got this over a month ago and it's been my go to ever since I tried it for the first time. It goes on like a gloss but dries a matte shade and it actually lasts. I usually only have to touch it up once after eating or drinking. Before applying any lipsticks I always exfoliate and moisturize my lips so that the color doesn't settle into links or clump up.

Skin Inc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask

I know I've already mentioned some of my favorite masks but it's time to add this one to the mix. The winter months (and pretty much year-round in SF!) really dries out my skin so I started using this hydrating mask by Skin Inc and it makes all the difference. It's gel based so you can leave it on over night, which is what I do, or leave it on for 30+ minutes. It leaves your face feeling super hydrated and dewy. It's also great on those long overnight flights because it won't leave your skin dry up in the air. Seriously, though ever since I've been using the hydrating mask my friends have commented how dewy and glowing my face looks. Boom!

Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in No.01

Burberry is known for their natural glowing skin (especially down the runway), so when I got the sample from Sephora I was super excited. This illuminator is super light and sheer so you can put it on your face (duh!), body and décolletage. I add a drop or two on the back of my hand then mix with a pump of my foundation and apply. I love the natural glow and dewy-ness it gives my skin. I'm officially out of my sample and will be purchasing.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Taupe

This isn't anything new per se, but it's new to me. So many people told me to try the Brow Wiz and I'm so happy I did. I was very loyal to my Benefit but haven't looked back since I started using this one. The Brow Wiz makes my eyebrows look the most full and shaped without looking drawn on.

Four Beauty Mistakes We All Make

BeautyVeronica Arrieta4 Comments
Four Beauty Mistakes We All Make

I'm a makeup junkie. I've never been to beauty school, don't work at Sephora or have any affiliation to the beauty industry. But I have an eye for makeup, what works and what doesn't. I've put together a list of some of four common beauty mistakes I see.

Wearing The Wrong Shade of Foundation.

I see this a lot of this during the fall/winter months. Usually we're a bit tanner in the summer, so instead of keeping that same foundation for 12-months, buy a different foundation for the winter and summer. I highly recommend to get yourself matched by a pro - the ladies at Sephora now have some pretty awesome gadgets to find the best match of foundation for your skin.

Not Blending.

I can say this until I'm blue in the face! But really, one of the most important things about makeup is to BLEND BLEND BLEND. My favorite way to blend is with a beauty blender. And while you're blending, check your face in a few different lights. I always like to check my makeup with natural light by a window and the light in the bathroom to make sure everything is blended out perfectly. You don't want to be walking out the house with a harsh line you missed from your contour.

Not Highlighting and Contouring

I feel like so many people are scared about highlighting and contouring from the Kardashians, but I promise you it's not scary!! When you're contouring your accentuating your natural features by receding certain areas of the face and emphasizing other areas when highlighting. You should contour the hollows of the cheeks, slim the nose, and jaw. And you should highlight your cheekbones, chin, bridge of the nose, cupids bow, and middle of the forehead. I don't care what anyone says, this has been around forever and is here to stay!

Having A Bold Lip Paired With A Bold Eye

This could be more of a preference thing, but when you see someone with a bright red lip and a dark smokey eye it's a little overwhelming. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for the bold lip and bold eye but not paired together.

Here Are a Few Of My Favorites:

For The Love Of Highlighters

Top Favorite Highlighters

Okay, so highlighters are literally my life! Yes I realize I just shared some of my beauty favorites, but purposely didn't include any highlighters. Now let's be honest, I am a highlighter phene - in my book, there's nothing better than a really good highlight (seriously, gorgeous!). I love the way a highlight grabs the light on your face and makes you glow. I get compliments almost everytime I wear it. I apply highlight on the tops of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, center of my forehead and a little on my cupids bow and chin.

Top Favorite Highlighters

My Favorite Highlighters

1. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in the shade Champagne Pop is my newest highlight to the family and my all-time favorite. Becca Cosmetics collaborated with Jaclyn Hill (one of my favorite YouTube beauty bloggers) to create this highlight. Jaclyn's vision for Champagne Pop was to create a summertime glow for all skin tones - from the fairest to the darkest. Champagne Pop is a super pigmented rose gold color with both pink and gold iridescence. The pinks and golds adds more warmth to the skin to give you that summertime glow. It's a bit sheer, which is great because you have control more over the product - you can do more of a subtle natural highlight or build it up for a more dramatic look. This just came out to July 2nd and in-stores on July 16th, so definitely get your hands on this limited product before it sells out!

2. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in the shade Opal is an all time favorite! In fact, if Jaclyn Hill didn't collaborate with Becca then this would still be my go-to highlighter. I love the way this illuminizer absorbs and reflects light. Opal gives you more of a golden glowing highlight, which is different from Champagne Pop because there isn't any rose and pink undertones. The shade opal is ideal for my skin tone and darker. However, If you're super fair get the shade Moonstone.

3. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in the shade Luminous Light is more of a beige skin tone color. This highlighter is the most subtle of the three, but packs a big punch in the light. Think of luminous light of more of a champagne pearl color that gives you a soft, incandescent candlelit glow.

I've been lagging on my favorite beauty products because of our recent travels but have finally gotten caught up on life (welcome back to reality, Veronica). I've decided to pick a few of my go-to's during the summer but also a few products that I've recently discovered and literally don't know how I've lived without. Without further adieu, here are my beauty favorites for July.

Do you have any go-to beauty products in the summer? Leave me a note in the comments below.

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder is a miracle worker for under the eyes

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder

In all honesty, I don't know what I did before this Brightening Powder. I bought it a few months ago and it's really changed my under eye game. I've always had dark circles under my eyes - no matter how much sleep I do or don't get, so when I discovered this brightening powder a few months ago I had to try it. It keeps my concealer in place while brightening up my under eyes without creating any build up, looking cakey or settling in any fine lines. I apply my concealer like normal then use the brightening power to set it. And sometimes I'll add a little to my chin and forehead as a highlight. I apply the brightening powder with a damp beauty blender but you could also apply with a fluffy brush. I will buy this secret brightening powder forever and ever.

Tarte mascara is super lengthening and gives a false lash loon

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara

I've always been a drugstore mascara girl and didn't really get the fuss about spending $21 on a mascara. But as I mentioned, I watch a bunch of YouTube beauty bloggers and they all raved about this Tarte mascara so I budged - I figured I'll try one this one time...and holy moly batman! This mascara gives the look of false lashes. It's super lengthening and separates beautifully. I only use one coat and it doesn't clump or anything (it also doesn't hurt that the packaging is cute and purple). This has been my favorite mascara hands down. However, if you don't want to spend the money, my favorite drugstore mascara is the Maybelline Full and Soft, which I wore on my wedding day.

Loreal BB Cream is a great drugstore BB cream for summertime

Loreal B.B. Cream

My best friend, Paige introduced me to this BB cream almost a year ago and I've loved it ever since. I usually don't wear foundation during the work week or in the summertime because I have that natural bronzed glow (wishful thinking?!), so instead I'll put on a BB cream to even out my skin tone. This Loreal B.B. Cream is a 4-in-1 because it primes, corrects, hydrates and perfects my skin. I use it in the shade "medium" - it comes out in a white formula and then matches to your skin tone as it warms up on your face. For a drug store product, I certainly can't complain. Update: I'm getting a few samples of other BB creams soon, so will have to update you once I try a few other brands.

Urban Decay Setting Spray is magic in a bottle! And keeps your makeup from melting off your face all day and night

Urban Decay Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray

This setting spray is magic in a bottle! Seriously though, I've been using it for over 6 years now and it's never once failed me. After I finish my makeup, I generously spritz my face with the setting spray, then use my hands to fan my face to help dry. The viola, my makeup stays all day and night without melting off my face. I don't know what they put in this stuff but Urban Decay is genius!

It's no surprise to anyone that knows me that I love beauty products, from skincare to makeup to hair and more. Still unsure what it is about products that make me all giddy inside but I can literally watch beauty tutorials and product reviews on YouTube all day! No really, if you don't believe me just ask my would think I'm a makeup artist by the amount of makeup I have everywhere. With that said, I’m constantly trying out new beauty products and I love getting to share my favorite finds with you guys. I would love for you to share your favorite products, what works for you or what you’re excited about trying. It’s a two way street and I love hearing your feedback.

Monthly Beauty Favorites: Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit |

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit

This Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour has literally changed my life! I use this pallet practically every day and honestly have no idea how I got by so long without it. I love highlighting and contouring and am always trying different products to get the perfect contour. I use the banana shade (top, middle yellow-ish color) to set my under eye makeup from moving all day and the fawn shade (bottom, middle color) to contour my cheekbones, nose and under lip, then I mix the three brown shades to shadow my forehead, and chin. The yellow shade is perfect to hide my dark circles under the eyes. My favorite brush to apply the contour is this angled kabuki brush

Monthly Beauty Favorites: Hourglass Primer |

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

If you're on the market for a primer, I highly recommend this Veil Mineral Primer, it makes my face feel silky and smooth throughout the day while hiding any fine lines and imperfections. A lot of primers leave my skin feeling greasy which I hate, but this one leaves my skin with a satin-finish. A little product goes a long way, I bought the little travel size (.33 oz) to test it out and have since bought the largest one and keep replenishing my travel size.

Monthly Beauty Faorites: Becca Highlighter in Opal |

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector

I feel like Becca is a hidden gem and you need to jump on the Becca bandwagon stat!! Words can't even explain how amazing this highlighter is. It leaves my skin with a natural glow and looks so luminous in the light. I have the shade Opal (pictured) an you're probably thinking, that's a highlighter, it looks so dark but I promise it's not. This is a perfect highlighter for spring and summer to give you that radiant sun-kissed glow! I've been using this highlighter for almost a year now and I haven't even hit pot yet so it's a product that will last you a long time as well.

Monthly Beauty Favorites: Tarte Blush |

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush

You're going to officially think I'm nuts after this one but I used three samples of this blush from Sephora (I love me some samples!) before I bought this product. I mean after you go through three samples it's time to buy the product, amiright or amiright! I was first drawn to the blush when I saw the '12-hour' and thought there is no way this stays on for 12 hours; but sure enough it did. This blush is super pigmented and really does last all day. I use it on low-key makeup days to add a little color to my face but also when I'm all dolled up. I recommend using a firmer brush to apply because it's packed into the compact pretty hard, but on the flip side it will last you forever because a little goes a long way.

What are some of your favorites beauty finds?
